currently im playing xillia again and find both the combat and the exploration to be so much better than anything zestiria or berseria offered.įor me, if the tales series carries on in berserias direction, this franchise is dead. like almost everyone is having a blast with this game. whats fascinating to me is that my opinion seems to be quite unpopular, judging from the reviews of the game compared to zestiria. i tried to finish the game multiple times but got burnt out so quickly. Tldr: exploring the world of berseria just is super boring and a drag. zestiria had some serious issues but even there, the dungeons atleast where decent and had a nice complexity curve. all there is to find in the dungeons is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of enemies that get annoying very fast so you will only ever fight about 1/3 of them in every location. the dungeons up to very late in the game offer little to no puzzles or metroidvania like progression, like many games in the series prior.

the overwold and even more so the dungeons are just empty and boring apart from the trash items and catfurry orbs lyring around everywhere. combat still is fun, but now for my main issue:Īpart from fighting and plot, berseria doesnt offer that much. the game makes it seem like the combat is incredibly deep, but in general you can just abuse the best strategies and do the same thing over and over.

The combat both over and undercomplicates things, a trend that zestiria already set. and i gotta say, while berseria sure has an interesting premise and characters, the gameplay just falls flat. i played symphonia, abyss, vesperia, xillia 1, zestiria even the port of the very first tales of phantasia.
